Mr. Zhuang Hongxing, who was born in Nanxun in 1940 and was admitted into the Fine Arts Department of Nanjing Normal College in 1956, is now a famous painter and professor and member of China Artists Association, and his works of art were selected in national art exhibitions and won him silver awards. In August 2018, he held a solo exhibition at the National Art Museum of China and 28 of his artworks including 12 works featuring Nanxun during the period of Minguo (the Republic of China (1912-1949)) were collected by the same museum. Those masterpieces were featured in traveling exhibitions throughout the world, making Mr. Zhuang a well-known painter. He is an outstanding artist of the time who is also a native of Nanxun.
During his childhood, Mr. Zhuang Hongxing lived in Nanxun within the Republican period. The reflection of dark bluish tiles in the water in the moonlight, tawny fences in the hometown in the springtime, old acquaintances under oilcloth umbrellas in the dreams, blurred shadows on mottled whitewashed walls, all this invokes his ever-lasting nostalgia. His homesickness finds itself in his watercolors of small size, transcending specific objects and fading away like ripples in the water.
